Maximus Beach
Achaion.com reflects Max’s journey from a high school senior navigating the challenges of the Covid pandemic to a dedicated advocate for financial education and the markets.
During the onset of the Covid pandemic, Max, then a graduating high school senior, found himself adjusting to a new reality devoid of traditional milestones like prom and graduation. Instead, he immersed himself in a newfound fascination with the economic impacts of the pandemic. His interest in markets, interest rates, and economics grew as he avidly consumed daily podcasts on these topics.
Upon entering the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Max initially explored various paths—from economics and Japanese to physics and pre-law—each reflecting his overarching goal to “be happy and make a difference.” It was his rejection from business school that prompted deep reflection during his freshman summer. Realizing the importance of seizing opportunities, Max resolved to focus on his academic and professional growth.
Since that pivotal summer, Max’s journey has been marked by notable achievements. He served as President and Portfolio Manager of the University of Illinois Investment Management Academy, overseeing a multi-million dollar small-cap equity portfolio. He gained valuable experience in asset management in Chicago and sell-side equity research in New York. His academic pursuits led him to study economics in Vienna, Austria, and culminated in graduating with President’s Honors and the Golder Scholar distinction, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Econometrics and Quantitative Economics.
Today, through Achaion.com and his commitment to effective altruism, Max harnesses the power of compounding, finance, and markets to support himself, his loved ones, and combating the growing wealth gap in the United States.
